Sebastian Herkner
Sebastian Herkner was born in Bad Mergentheim, Germany. He studied product design at HfG Offenbach am Main and founded his own studio in 2006. During his studies, he focused on designing objects and furniture merging various cultural contexts, honing his keen sense for materials, colors and textures. He gets his inspiration from original materials and techniques. Through the use of contemporary technology and refinement methods, he reinterprets simple mechanical principles and processing technologies.
With his Bell Table design for ClassiCon 2012, he succeeded in taking his first big step towards international recognition. Today, Herkner works for international companies like Cappellini, Dedon, Fritz Hansen and Thonet. He designs furniture and lamps and curates stage exhibitions dealing with design.
Sebastian Herkner’s success is reflected in numerous awards and prizes, including the 2011 German Design Award in the ‘Newcomer’ category and the 2015 EDIDA Award for ‘Best International Newcomer’. Sebastian Herkner was named guest of honor at imm cologne 2016 and invited to present his concept for ‘Das Haus – Interiors on Stage’.
